The Partners at Taylors, the North West commercial law firm, have acted for the firm’s client, Highpoint Care Limited, in the purchase of a new build care home from LNT Construction Limited, part of the LNT Group.

Highpoint Care, which is owned by entrepreneur, Hemant Patel, has purchased the 60-bed purpose-built care home located on the ‘Colliers Croft’ site in Haydock, Merseyside, from LNT Carehomes Limited. The property was built by LNT Group’s construction company, LNT Construction Limited.

This is the first care home purchase for Mr Patel, an orthodontist by profession and University lecturer, who plans to acquire more care homes over the next five years.

Speaking of the transaction, Mr Patel, said, The care home industry is going to be a long term investment and ethical companies like LNT will do well and provide a valuable services to the community by constructing quality homes, one of which I am pleased to have purchased with the help of Taylors”.

Highpoint Care was advised by Taylors’ Partners across a number of specialist areas; Commercial Property Partner, Ruth McCarthy led the transaction for the client; Stephen Jarman assisted with corporate matters; Chris Scott advised on the construction aspects of the transaction; Will Clayton advised on employment and Tony Catterall on intellectual property.

Ruth McCarthy, Commercial Property Partner at Taylors, commented, “Despite the slowdown in construction in recent years, the care sector continues to thrive. Highpoint, under Hemant Patel, and like many of our clients, is seeing opportunities created by the growth in the ageing population and the “grey pound”, and has embarked on an ambitious acquisition trail”.

The purchase structure was set up and the deal completed all within a matter of months and during this time, Taylors provided a range of commercial legal services to support the deal - corporate, property, construction, employment and intellectual property. Challenging but rewarding, it was a true team effort from all those involved”.

LNT Construction, part of the LNT Group, is the largest builder of purpose-built care homes in the UK. The company develops a selected range of energy and design efficient care homes and delivers a very comprehensive turn-of key-package. Its other customers include Priory, MHA and Sanctuary Healthcare.

LNT Construction was advised by Thomas Golding in the Care team at Freeth Cartwright LLP.
