When we decided as a team earlier
this year to take on the Trailwalker
Challenge in aid of Oxfam and The
Gurkha Welfare Trust, we all agreed
that we should set ourselves an
equally challenging fundrasing
target. "Let's aim for £10,000!",
Andrew said. "Maybe not quite THAT
challenging, Andrew", we said.
So, where do you start when you've
£10,000 to raise? We told our
clients and supporters all about the
Challenge. "So what's involved?",
they all enquiried.
"We're marching 100 kilometres in
under 30 hours along the Gurkha
Regiment's training route in the
South Downs National Park. That's
the same as walking from London to
Southampton, or crossing the English
Channel three times - non-stop!"
"You're all mad....how do we sponsor
you?" they said.
Within a month, we had secured
the generous support of our
corporate sponsors and had well and
truly got our fundraising ball
rolling.
Then came the fund raising
events; we were absolutely delighted
with the support we received at our
charity quiz night in May; our
sell-out night raised £1,700 towards
our target; a great night as had by
all (even the winners of the Wooden
Spoon!)
The second of the events saw 15
teams sign up for a fantastic (and
thankfully very sunny) day of golf
at Wychwood Park in Cheshire,
raising £2,100.
Since we launched our
fundraising, we've also had the
support of family, friends and even
strangers, who have been touched by
the cause and our commitment to
raising funds for these two great
causes.
So, it's absolutely fantastic to
be able to say that, thanks to the
enormous kindness and generosity of
all our supporters, we have smashed
our target - and still have another
4 weeks of fundraising to go.
On behalf of us all, and of
course, Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare
Trust, please accept our sincere
thanks and appreciation.
Now there's just the small matter
of completing that walk...!
